Mednyánszky
Opening: 30 June 2005
A great interest in the life and work of Ladislav Mednyánzsky (1852–1919), the painter of Central European renown active in Slovakia, inspired the Slovak National Gallery to stage another exhibition of his work. The artist (born 24 April 1852 in Beckov) had a close relationship to the former Upper Hungary. The works on view are dominated by two genres associated with Strážky and the High Tatra mountains where Mednyánszky spent his adolescence and later created his works. Nature elements became a permanent theme of his oeuvre, but he was also involved in man and his hardship, depicting it with great interest during his long creative period. The exhibition is based on the works from the collection of the Slovak National Gallery and documents Mednyánszky’s years of the quest for his own artistic path(1870s–1890s).
