Invitation for the Exhibition opening Aleš Votava

The exhibition presents the work of Aleš Votava, a prematurely deceased artist, whose art influenced several disciplines. He was one of the leading figures of Slovak stage design in the 1990s. Votava developed his programme of stage design composed as a process of transformation of stage dimensions, using pure colour spaces, sophisticated dynamic light and astonishing vistas which would create mystery. His designs marked a turning-point in Slovak stage design and went along with current international trends. As a jewellery artist he contributed to the change in the understanding of art jewellery in Slovakia. Commenting on its original function, he endowed jewellery with new content and meaning. The exhibition will also focus on other art disciplines of his professional interest – theatre photography, film, graphic design, exhibition design, object-making and art criticism. He published reviews of theatre performances and critical essays dealing with the criteria of stage design.
