The exhibition of African art focuses on over one hundred masks and sculptures. They represent the largest collection of tribal art of the black continent in Slovakia, assembled by the Bratislava collector, Ivan Melicherčík, in the period of 15 years. The most remarkable pieces on view are dance masks from Burkina Faso, massive sculptures of animal motifs from the Ivory Coast and Mali, fetish woodcuts from Congo and statues of fertility from the Bago tribe in West Africa. The artefacts on display show a great variety, bold shapes, admirable inventiveness and creative spontaneity.
