Returns
July 2006 - January 2007
The exhibition presents the collection of the finest paintings from the Slovak enclave in Vojvodina – Kovačica (Serbia) from the 1960s. Martin Jonáš, Zuzana Chalupová, Michal Bíreš, Ján Garaj, Ján Kňazovic and other artists drew on everyday life and festive occasions in the Banatian village. The central feature of Kovačica painting is figuration expressed in simplified and stylised forms, as well as a strong feeling of detail. Their common feature is the narrative understanding of the picture. The protagonists share the use of a lively scale of picturesque “Slovak” local colour.
