Jolán Oláh – Selection from Work
Opening: 16 April 2005, 3.00 p.m.
Jolán Oláh (1932 Salgótarjan) is a leading Roma naive artist from Hungary. She paints stories associated with the existence of her family and the Roma community. The ballad-like interpretations of those relationships often display sorrow, loneliness and pain. On the other hand, her viewpoint is joyously enthusiastic and lyrical. The world of nature recreated by the artist into the world of fantasy is characterised by symbolic transformations. From the formal aspect, her oil paintings appeal enormously to the public, displaying a strong creative instinct for form, fine brushwork and pure, brilliant colours. Her paintings show deformed forms without any regard to anatomy and perspective. The exhibition of works from the artist’s collection is organised in co-operation with the Cultural Institute of the Hungarian Republic in Bratislava.
