The exhibition of historical portraiture from the 17th—19th centuries

The exhibition of historical portraiture from the 17th—19th centuries consists of an extensive family portrait gallery documenting the development of Slovak portraiture in its stylistic and typological transformation from the Renaissance to Romanticism. It comprises small format as well as large official portraits of influential representatives of the Hungarian politics, the Church and society, namely the members of aristocratic families related to the owners of Strážky Chateau. Apart from a collection of traditional portraits of the Horvath-Stansiths and the members of the Szirmay, Mednyánszky and Czóbel families, the collection also includes the portraits of the Forgáchs, Révays, Esterházys and other aristocrats, dignitaries, the Church representatives and wealthy burghers. Besides the paintings of unknown artists, the visitor to the family gallery can see the portraits by J. G. Kramer, J. J. Stunder, J. Czauczik and J. Rombauer. The exhibition is complemented with the portraits from the period of national revival represented by P. M. Bohúň and J. B. Klemens.
