WE WILL BE GLAD TO SEE YOU The 60th anniversary of the founding of the SNG
The exhibition, 60 rokov otvorené (60 Years Open), looks at the history, mission, and collections of the Slovak National Gallery. It represents the most important documents, significant acquisitions, individual workplaces, and personalities related with the institution in a chronological format. Besides historical and visual artistic material, a selection of artefacts has been prepared for audiences which cannot be seen under normal circumstances in any exhibition: e.g. all chairs made for the gallery spaces, a depository rack full of the castings of Messerschmidt’s plastic art-pieces called “character heads” owned by the Gallery, and all the awards since 1948 received by the Gallery. The final visual effect results from a mix of collection items, memorabilia, and archival material devoted to the institution.
