The exhibition is staged in the conception of Fratelli Alinari from Florence – an institution engaged in a long-term tradition in photography. The exhibits on view include almost two hundred black-and-white and colour prints, which trace the development of Italian photography and society. The series comprises masterpieces ranging from the early 20th century to the photograph taken in the orbital station in 2000. The exhibiting artists include photographers who are a big name in this discipline. The works of older artists (Alinari, Brogi, Wulz, Nunes Vais, Michetti) are in contrast with the photographs of Leissa, Lattuado, De Biasi,
Patellani, Berengo Gardina, Giacomelli and Basilica. The collection is complemented with the works of international photographers involved in the theme of Italy (e. g. Stieglitz, Cartier-Bresson, Capa, Klein). The exhibition is divided into 22 thematic circles arranged in accordance with the style and the period, which form large historical groups covering the entire 20th century. The photographs are from the collection of the Alinari Museum as well as from other major Italian and international collections of museums and private collectors.
