“New Narratives” as the subject matter of contemporary art history have influenced the creative strategies of many artists for years. The Hungarian art historian Lóránd Hegyi (currently the director of the Modern Art Gallery in St Etienne) chose this subject as the main idea of the exhibition concept of contemporary Italian art. Presented by the curator and twelve artists, “New Narratives” feature the search and discovery of various mini and micro stories, which replace the great narratives of earlier art history. The exhibition begins with the paintings of natural narrators of the Italian Transavantgarde, Sandro Chia and Mimmo Paladino, and finishes with the works of the youngest artists who successfully reveal confusions and visual “errors” of everyday reality in an ironic and provocative manner.
