Argentum Pauperum. Pewter in the Collection of the Slovak National Gallery
Water Barracks, 2nd floor, hall 7
15. Marec 2005 - 5. June 2005

Curator Ágnes Schrammová

The collection of pewter artefacts from the Slovak National Gallery is relatively unknown to both lay and expert audiences. The gallery started the collection in the 1970s after the first items had been acquired from parsonages and private collectors. It consists of tableware (jugs, bottles, plates and bowls) and ceremonial and festive vessels (chalices, candlesticks, guild jugs) from the 16th to the 19th centuries. The exhibition has great appeal for visitors, collectors and lovers of beautiful objects, which display a variety of shapes, decorations and a mysterious
fluid of everyday and occasional, secular and church accessories and tableware used in the past.
