The exhibition premiered in Bratislava in 2002 continues the series presenting acquisitions of the Slovak National Gallery to the public. After Gothic and Baroque works, old graphic prints and drawings, icons, photographs, applied art and arts and crafts, this exhibition shows the artefacts from the collection of sculpture and painting from the latter half of the 20th century purchased in 1989–2001. Although acquisitions were irregular due to funding, the masterpieces of major representatives of modern and contemporary art represent the core of this exhibition. Apart from the works of the founders of Slovak painting and sculpture from the 1960s (A. Barčík, M. Čunderlík, R. Fila, A. Klimo, J. Koller, M. Paštéka, V. Popovič, M. Urbásek, R. Uher, J. Kostka, V. Kompánek, J. Jankovič, J. Kočiš, A. Rudavský, M. Dobeš, Š. Belohradský and others), the artists representing the following decade who came under the influence of Conceptual Art presented their pictures and objects, (J. Bartusz, M. Bartuszová, R. Sikora, J. Meliš, V. Havrilla, D. Fischer, K. Bočkayová, M. Bočkay and others). Samples of the so-called new painting (I. Csudai, L. Teren), re-constructions of environments (S. Filko, J. Želibská) and spatial multi-media installations (D. Tóth, P. Rónai, P. Meluzin, R. Ondák and others) are also on view.
