SNG leads creative dramatics workshops for children of school and preschool age in it's spaces. The project called The World of Fantasy is aimed at enrichment of child's fantasy, development of communication skills and imagination, with special focus on experience and perception. The children will have an unique possibility to look at the paintings in gallery as if by someone else's eyes. They will learn how to perceive the subtle atmosphere which emanates from them. They will work with material, play a person from a painting, uncover it's character and emotions. Thinking about the situation that preceded the work on the painting, they will try to play it.
All workshops are led by a specialist, who works in the field of creative dramatics and children theatre.

The projects are cyclic, last 60 minutes and take place in the spaces of SNG.

Maybe it was this quote that led the event organizers at SNG to offer and create a platform for a specialist in the field of creative dramatics.

And so new possibilities for work with children with the name "Creative dramatics at SNG" have been established. A brief overview of what it is follows, so that you can understand it more deeply.

What is creative dramatics:
It is a set of methods and means to develop child's personality, with all it's facets including emotions. Creative dramatics is an alternative to the current education system that concentrates on the development of child's personality and leads it's perception. Experiencing Creative dramatics, the children will acquire new emotional and rational knowledge that respects their own world. Creative dramatics develops foremostly psychical functions, social relationships and ethical stands in the child that not only influence it's relationship to art, but to all of man's activities. Creative game is remarkable in it's spontaneity, imagination, naturalness, playfulness, creativity, originality and is appealing to everyone involved.

The move to introduce events which mix visual arts with dramatics was deliberate. Exhibited paintings and sculptures from all over the world offer the children enough inspiration to start or continue their own creative work. The child has a possibility to perceive and experience the atmosphere much more deeply. Suddenly he/she becomes it's part, transforms into it, lives in their world, goes on in the situations caught in the paintings. He/she begins to act and think as the person from the painting, takes up it's character and re-creates it on it's own.

The painting in our gallery becomes something more than a object just to look at from a distance. It becomes decoration, scene instrument and source of inspiration.
Children will become aware of the smallest details on the painting which they probably missed during a regular visit at our gallery. They will be turning into objects, landscape, animals and nature, buildings and persons from paintings by their own movement. This works demands attention and self-discipline, because the main principle is experience, emotional experience - so that the child can resolve the given task on it's own, so that it can understand that there are more solutions possible. Creative dramatics is not always about outer manifestation, but inner experience - a process that helps the child to become a unique personality staying true to itself. To guide this process, we use work with objects ("object reanimation") and materials (paper, cloth), too. The result is a diverse set of emotional and rational knowledge that the child acquired through it's own experience, perception or manipulation with a object.

We see the work with children in the framework of creative dramatics as a major benefit. In a fast-paced world, world of computers and technics, there is little time left for reading or playing. There are few possibilities for the child to get into creative work that involves imagination and fantasy, to think for itself and what is most important - to work in a group. To collaborate, to accommodate, to listen to, to be aware of the collective and become its part. Here we offer a possibility to make the social relationships in children's collectives better. It's not learning - it's a game. Intelligence is important, but such is creativity too. In the game the child goes through experience, becomes aware of the surroundings, learns to know it, transports into different time periods, meets with people and different professions (even those long forgotten). Creative dramatics isn't available only to children from elementary schools, also disabled children and children with behaviour disorders are welcome. And this is where creative dramatics becomes DRAMATHERAPY. Healing by playing through creativity.
