STANO FILKO: POETRY ABOUT SPACE – COSMOS

June 24 – September 18, 2016
Esterházy Palace, 3rd floor
Curator: Lucia Gregorová Stach in cooperation with Aurel Hrabušický and Joanna Kordjak

This solo exhibition of Stano Filko (1937 – 2015), one of the leading figures of the Central European avant-garde, will present a selection of his early work from the 1960s and the 1970s. It is a continuation of the project entitled FILKO – FYLKO – PHYLKO, which the SNG prepared in cooperation with the Zachęta National Gallery of Art at their prestigious premises in Warsaw in the summer of 2015.
The Bratislava exhibition is also based on the contrast of monumental and chamber gestures of this artist – the artworks are complemented by projects, concepts, sketches, slides, prints and archive documents as open books for reading and thinking. The thematic units are enriched by Filko’s later interventions of related archive documents and newer works, since cyclical returns “in time” and the retroactive arranging of thoughts and motifs in new systems and series represented part of Filko’s unique and characteristic style. This exhibition, which anticipates Filko’s future retrospective in the SNG, will be accompanied by the launch of the first of three monographic volumes about Stano Filko.
